Shoshone falls
BY RACHEL KING
description
Shoshone (pronounce Sho-sho-nee) Falls is a majestic water fall. It is lovingly called the “Niagara of the West” because it is 45 feet higher than Niagara Falls. If you were to stand at the bottom, you would have to look up 212 feet. That is about 21 basketball hoops up! And, as if that weren't enough, think about how tall the Eiffel Tower is and then lay it on its side and that is the width of Shoshone Falls! That’s about 900 feet.
Besides staring at this wonder of the world in awe, the city has created other activities for groups and families. There is a playground for the kids, there are places to picnic, hike, boat, and swim. There is even a scenic overlook. Imagine the beauty of the landscape, complete with roaring waterfall! This is one place you need to see. And don't panic, there are bathrooms available.

Best times to visit and fees
The falls are open from the end of March until the end of September. The best time to go is in the Spring when the snow is melting up in the mountains and when the water is not being taken to irrigate the nearby farms.
Here is a friendly note of warning: check out the current flow of the falls if you are aiming to see it at its best because the water is not always flowing. As of March 23, 2014 the current flow was at 50 cubic feet per second. Check out this website to see what it is today: http://www.tfid.org/index.aspx?NID=288
